Access Strategies

Access Strategies are essential tools in achieving accessibility and inclusion for all organisations. They should include inlcusion for all people with characteristics protected under the Equality Act 2010 including disability, age, race, religion,

gender and sexuality.

Successful Access Strategies involve 3 stages, Assessment, Development and Implementation

Assessment

  • An evaluation of the legislative frameworks that applies to an organisation

  • Assessment of the current accessibility of the built environments in which the organisation functions (Access Audits)

  • Assessment of practices and procedures in place regarding accessibility and discrimination.

  • Consultation with people with disabilities and other protected characteristics.

Development

From the data gained from the Assessment stage an Access Strategy is developed to prevent discrimination to people with disabilities and other

protected characteristics and promote inclusion.

This will include short term and long term solutions to be incorporated into staff training, regular and scheduled maintenance plus planned adaptations to the

built environment and new acquisitions.

Implementation

No access strategy can be effective unless it is correctly implemented.

Noble Access provides a practical implementation schedule for the Access Strategies so that organisations can fulfill their legal requirements and all customers can benefit from inclusion, especially people with disabilities.

Access Strategies are recommended in the Codes of Practice for the Equality Act 2010.
